My Self-Sufficient Journey: Raising Backyard Chickens

In 2021 I decided to get backyard chickens, and boy am I glad I did. I eat eggs for breakfast everyday and love having the little hens around. I also have a couple roosters, but that’s a story for another day.

Here’s the video sharing my experience raising them:

I’ve got 8 laying hens and 3 roosters and have a great coop with attached run area. I’m moving to a farm in the spring so I’ll be expanding my operations a bit when I make that move. For now, this is perfect for me and my three teenagers. I have some extra to sell and use the rest for my own family.

I got them in early April, and had eggs by August. Some of my dark chickens haven’t started laying yet, at least they don’t lay many brown eggs. The white chickens lay white eggs, and the black/brown chickens lay brown eggs. My new customers like the brown eggs, but they are all wonderful.

I shared the whole process in my video, so please check that out. Thanks!
