Every time I drive up to the Ocala duplex, I get this quiet little moment where I just stand there and think, “I can’t believe this is really happening.”
I’ve worked on so many projects for clients over the years, but building something of my own — something I designed, planned, and now get to develop — hits differently. This duplex is more than a build-to-rent project. It’s a reminder of why I fell in love with architecture and real estate investing in the first place.
What’s Happening on the Job Site This Week
A lot has changed since the last update, and these are the kinds of changes that make the whole project feel like it’s finally coming together:
- Plumbing and electrical rough-ins are officially done
This always feels like a huge milestone — the “behind the walls” work is completed.
- HVAC is the next step
Once that goes in, we’ll move quickly into drywall.
Another essential part that gets us one step closer to livability.
- Siding is finished
The siding completely transformed the exterior — it finally looks like a real home now.
Why This Duplex Means So Much to Me
Being both an architect and a real estate investor means I see a project from two different perspectives at the same time.
My architect side wants efficient design, good flow, energy performance, and solid construction.
My investor side wants long-term value, durability, and something that makes sense financially. This duplex checks every box.
It’s the kind of project I hoped to build when I first started dreaming about doing my own developments — practical, sustainable, functional, and a good rental asset for years to come.
And honestly… seeing it rise out of the ground has been a really humbling and exciting moment in my career.
A Little Real Talk: The Challenges Behind the Scenes
I also want to be transparent about something.
This hasn’t been an easy project. There have been mistakes and delays along the way — the kind that cost time and money, even when you do everything right.
The duplex was originally supposed to be finished this summer. But with those setbacks, we’re now aiming for completion by the end of December.
I’m sharing that not to sound negative, but because it’s part of the real process. Building isn’t always smooth, but staying committed and pushing forward always pays off. And I know this project will be worth every hurdle once it’s complete.
What’s Up Next
If everything goes as planned, here’s what’s coming soon:
-HVAC installation
-Drywall
-Interior finishes
-Exterior details
-Cabinetry + trims + fixtures
These next few stages always go fast, so I’ll definitely have more photos and updates soon.
Thanks for Coming Along for the Journey
I really appreciate everyone who’s been following this project from the beginning. Sharing the progress makes the entire process even more meaningful to me.
This duplex is one of those “dream meets reality” moments, and I’m grateful to bring you all with me through each step.
More updates to come soon! If you have any questions about the build or the process, feel free to reach out!
